It was in the evening when
we arrived at Lijiang. After dinner, some of our tour members went out to the famous
Lijiang Ancient Town without
hesitation. There the night scene was joyful and crowded.
There were many small pubs and restaurants operating alongside the water canals, which
interweaving the whole town. We found all kinds of food sold there ranging from local Chinese hotpot gourmets
to Italian pizzas.
We sat down at a local restaurant to try out some local exotic
food like deep fried cheese (a local delicacy made from the milk of the high mountain "Mo" cow), roast high mountain beef and deep fried dragonflies.
Fred and Mrs. Lo enjoyed eating the deep fried dragonflies. According to them,
the dragonflies were juicy and delicious. But it was Ga-Ying Gor who gobbled up the entire dish without reserve!
The day
view of the Lijiang Ancient Town was another story. I saw many old men and women
gathered together at the town square. They were chatting and playing card games
under the nice warm sunshine. Most of them were people from the Naxi tribe, one of the major ethnic minorities
in Yunnan. That was the lifestyle in Lijiang, so relaxing and comfortable.
Lijiang was full of historical architectures. I particularly liked the rubble
roads, which were constructed for horses and wooden carriages in the ancient days. They were unique
and artistic, built with superb craftsmanship. The view of the Lijiang Ancient Town
from the top of the Lion Hill was another wonderful and extraordinary sight. Lijiang was
an unusual and amazing spectacle.
